Early Projects
Following the establishment of the practice in 2000, new commissions and competition wins soon followed in Rotterdam, Breda and Maastricht, among other cities. Below is a selection of these early projects, completed between 2000 and 2005.
Chassépark
Within OMA’s masterplan for Chassépark in Breda, we designed an L-shaped residential building set within the park. The building consists of three volumes: the apartment tower rests at its centre on two lower wings containing ground-oriented housing. The park and its paths continue beneath the tower, allowing the building to stand not as a barrier but as a gateway and object within the landscape.
De Colonel
Next to Maastricht railway station, we designed an office building on a narrow strip of previously vacant land, with commercial and hospitality spaces at ground level. A colonnade and green square lead visitors from the station towards the distinctive tower at the end of the building.
Brainpark III
On a prominent site along the A16, Rotterdam’s eastern ring road, our practice designed an office building for PricewaterhouseCoopers. The original scheme consisted of a composition of four slabs: two designed by Rapp+Rapp and two by our practice. The freestanding tower included in the original scheme was not realised.
Laan op Zuid
Along Laan op Zuid in Rotterdam, we designed two urban blocks — Blocks B and C — composed of residential buildings of varying sizes and heights, each with its own entrance. The subdivided blocks contain commercial spaces along Laan op Zuid. Beneath the towers, small colonnades mark the centre of each block, with a small square providing a connection towards the waterfront.
